LIVE CLUB SESSION @ NOMADEN

Clubnight dedicated to live club music. Guest musicians, new expressions, live beats, mix of electronic & acoustic music for the dancefloor. .

17th December fra 20.00 – 03.00

featuring: KOHINOOR

Kohinoor was born in Dacka, Bangladesh and came to Norway when she was three and a half years old. At the age of twelve she started to perform as a dancer. This led to various parts in different musicals. In her heart though, she wanted to express something deeper than what the musicals could offer.

She went back to the country of her birth and witnessed the harsh reality of poverty and oppression. Like many other third-world countries, Bangladesh is a land where Western ideas and regulations are easily accepted at the cost of local customs and traditions. She went by herself to distant places, there amongst Jamaica where she learned about rhythm and Negro Spirituals. Her style is a mix between World Music and Dancehall. Her connection with Rasta philosophy also reflects in her music, though mostly from a political view.

Her debutalbum is named Kohi de Browny and much of the material is autobiographic as in good old Hip Hop tradition. Her voice is raw and powerful and a personal engagement reveals when you listen to the album.

SHELDON BLACKMAN – VOCALS, GUITAR
Sheldon Blackman & The Soul Rebels The music I share is like food for the soul and enlightenment to the spirit, colourfull like the rainbow. Call it what you like, I call it “JAMOO” the gospel of Soca!! Roots, urban, Caribbean, conscientious heartbeat music. From conception, music has been an integral part of Sheldons life, he has grown up playing in a family band “The Love Circle” where his natural love for music was recognised at an early age and nurtured by the expert hand of his father the late great Ras Shorty I, pioneer of the musical genres of Soca and Jamoo- and father of the family band The Love circle. Sheldon Blackman, a bandleader, an accomplished composer, arranger, singer and musician, has accumulated an extensive collection of work and to see him live is to experience true world music fusion.

Becaye spent his childhood in Dakar, Senegal, and it was here he first laid his hands on a guitar. Becaye is largely self-taught. After learning elementary guitar-technique from a Serere musician, he went on to develop his own style, listening to recordings and to the radio. His African approach to guitar tuning and his way of playing the instrument result in a sound similar to the cora. Becaye began his musical career in Senegal, playing with musicians such as Baaba Maal and Mansuur Seck. He has since then participated in many groups and projects, in collaboration with a variety of musicians.

Collaboration with Global Oslo Music

“Clubnight dedicated to live club music.

THE KOÈJU PROJECT

Since the beginning in 2004, the Koèju Project has done performances
in various clubs in Oslo, but also in Tokyo, Shanghai, Milano, Athens,
Cairo, London, Liverpool & Praia (Cape Verde). A number of artists has
contributed to the project:: Mari Boine, Tong Lan, Mohammed Sawwah,
Becaye Aw, Safaa Al-Saadi, Sebastian Haugen, Diego Brasil, Luis
Landa-Schreitt and many others.

The thought of working with live, loopfree club music came about
almost as an reaction to the metronome based music scene at the time.
The goal was simple, namely to combine the liveness and spontaneity in
acoustic live music with the strenghts and sonic possibilities in
programmed music. Thursdays at Nomaden Club will be a forum for live
club music, both electronic and acoustic, where artists with interest
in club performance can try out their projects.
