Becaye Aw starts the evening with a short performance at 19.30. After the solo she will be joined by a group of invited musicians. There will be 3 sets of live music. Free entrance.

On Tuesdays this historic basement is filled with live music. Lots of musicians and a huge variety of instruments in a free falling improv session, so come listen, meditate or dance!

Becaye Aw (vocal & guitar)
Becaye Aw er en fremragende musiker som har gjort seg bemerket for sin særegne gitarteknikk, inspirert av lyden av det afrikanske tradisjonsinstrumentet Kora. Oppvokst i Mauritania og Senegal, Becayes musikk har dype røtter til Fulanitradisjonen man finner i subsahariske strøk og som har gitt ham et unikt sound beskrevet som vestafrikansk blues og roots. Tidlig i sin karriere spilte han med store afrikanske artister som Mansuur Seck, Ali Farka Toure og Baaba Maal, og senere med blant andre Steinar Ofsdal, Ablaye Cissoko, Women’s Voice, Kouame Sereba, Haddy N’jie, Unni Løvlid og Rolf-Erik Nystøm. Becaye har utgitt soloalbumene “Sibi” (2009) og “Off Road” (2016), et album med utgangspunkt i bestillingsverket med samme navn han gjorde på oppdrag fra Global Oslo Music i 2013.

(EN) Oslo-based artist Becaye Aw is a prominent figure on the contemporary world and crossover music scene, widely known for his own developed guitar style and tuning resulting in a sound similar to the traditional African instrument Kora. Raised in Mauritania and Senegal, his music is deeply rooted in the Fulani traditions present across Sub-Sahara. Becaye began his musical career in Senegal, playing with musicians such as Mansuur Seck, Ali Farka Toure and Baaba Maal. He has since collaborated with a large number of artists, among those: Ablaye Cissoko, Women’s Voice, Kouame Sereba, Steinar Ofsdal, King Ibu, Olav Torget, Unni Løvlid, Haddy N’jie and Rolf-Erik Nystrøm. Becaye has released two solo albums: “Sibi” (2009) and “Off Road” (2016) based on a piece he wrote that was commissioned by Global Oslo Music in 2013.
