Albumet er en dedikasjon til minnet av Misha Alperin, som gjennom sitt livsverk som utøver og komponist fikk renommé over hele verden. Alperin forlot oss i 2018, som medlem av Oslo Art Trio etterlot han seg musikk og inspirasjon som ga ønske om å fortsette arbeidet i duoform. Med seg på albumet har Petrova og Dani invitert Alperins mangeårige venn og briljante kollega fra Moscow Art Trio, Arkady Shilkloper (fransk horn), en trio som oppnådde stor anerkjennelse internasjonalt.
Beyond the Valley er både en videreføring og resultat av utøvernes kreative samarbeid som oppstod i tiden med Oslo Art Trio. Musikken er en blanding av tradisjonell folklore og komposisjoner av Misha Alperin, Evelina Petrova samt et stykke av Håkon Aase. De kreative arrangementene, elementer av improvisasjon og virtuose fremføring gjør Beyond the Valley til en musikalsk overraskelse av sjelden karakter.
Albumet er spilt inn i Ugla Lyd (Norge) med Morten Qvenild som tekniker, selv en unik utøver og tidligere elev av Alperin.

Beyond the Valley is Oslo Art Duo’s first album. The album is dedicated to the memory of the great musician and composer Misha Alperin, who left us in 2018. Alperin was a member of the previous Oslo Art Trio, the duo’s inspirer and driving force – and the precious generator of ideas.

The music in this album is a result of the duo’s new creative cycle and deepening into the initial ideas of the creative laboratory of the trio. It is a mixture of traditional folklore and music composed by Misha Alperin, Evelina Petrova and one piece composed by Håkon Aase. The music is characterized by its unpredictable arrangements, improvisations and interpretations.
The album features a special guest, a brilliant musician, all-time member of the world renowned Moscow Art Trio and Misha’s life-long friend Arkady Shilkloper (French Horn).
The album is recorded at Ugla Lyd (Norway) by Morten Qvenild, a unique musician and former student of Alperin.

Pianist Roksana Smirnova trekker her på sin klassiske formasjon i kombinasjon med improvisasjon, gitarist Misha Kalinin tar også her sitt instrument ut av sin tradisjonelle rolle gjennom en helt særegen interpretasjon og sound.
Dette er utøvere som har funnet en unik, sjangeroverskridende og kreativ musikalsk dialog.
Albumet er spilt inn i Artesuono Studio (Italia) med tekniker Stefano Amerio.

Roksana Smirnova & Misha Kalinin is a duo from Ukraine based in Shanghai.
Pianist Roksana Smirnova and guitarist Misha Kalinin have played many concerts together. Over the last six years they have been developing their duo, a combination of acoustic piano and electric guitar with effects that creates a very special sound. They’re different musical backgrounds combine interesting elements in the aim of creating an unique musical style.
Misha Kalinin takes the guitar out of its traditional place. He brims over with ideas, creating something new in the field of guitar sound. Pianist Roksana Smirnova combines spontaneity of improvisation with a sense of form influenced by her background as a classical musician. Their album features original compositions by both members of the duo.
The music does not fit into any specific genre. It brings together strongly contrasted elements, spacious impressionistic sound, improvisational interaction, dynamic rhythmic structures and sounds dissolving in silence. Their music dialogues are shaped into attractive compositions that connect deeply with listeners.
Channeling the flow of inspiration, music of the duo paints pictures in the mind.
