Fete de la musique 2019

“Music will be everywhere” was the idea behind Fête de la Musique – a giant celebration of music – launched by the French Minister of Culture, on June 21st, 1982, the symbolic day of summer solstice. An annual celebration of music that has been ongoing ever since all over the country and around the world.

No wonder Global Oslo Music participates in the world’s greatest celebration of music every June 21st, presenting artists based in Norway in collaboration with local artists. We promise excellent DJs and live music, pop-up bars and food.

For the 38th edition of Fête de la Musique we proudly present:

Lila Gold
Lila spent much of her childhood at Family Reggae Disco, often playing music when her Dad took a break. From a young age showed interest in her Dad’s large reggae vinyl collection and soon absorbed the basic fundamentals of reggae music. As a regular listener to her Dad’s radio show she started to discover modern sounds and young artists that inspired her. At just 12 years old Lila has been playing the early segment in club’s and has been playing at family events, gallery openings and community events. She plays contemporary roots and clean dancehall and always includes artists like Protoje, Lila Ike, Jah 9, and Chronixx in her set!

Dominic Reuben
Dominic Reuben grew up on reggae in the UK and started organising reggae club nights as soon as he was old enough. He spent most of his free time in specialist record shops or sound system dances throughout London which were his musical colleges. He soon was on air with his own weekly reggae radio show and started to work on sound systems as box-lifter and eventually as a selector. Reuben moved to Norway in 2000 and immediately started working with club nights, radio, concert promotion and rastafari events. In 2009 he started the successful Family Reggae Disco. Dominic continues to play regularly in clubs and in 2016 returned to the radio for the weekly Oslo Reggae Show. Dominic Reuben delivers uplifting and positive reggae music in a manner that always leaves people feeling good.

(English text follows)

AMINA SEWALI – Children’s concert
Do it yourself!
What if you mix, for example, Mozart and Robyn in one song -with just your own voice? Then you create rhythms with your voice – beatboxing – and place them on top your vocals. What happens then? Amina’s one-woman band is composed of vocals, beatboxing, and various rhythms all edited together via a Loop Box and Reading Board. In this concert Amina will show you that much can be created alone – and simply where you are.

01. juni: Global Nights presenterer Ombeline Chardes, Gatha, Dj LaMissy

GLOBAL NIGHTS #7 – 30. mai-02. juni

GLOBAL NIGHTS #7 – MAY 30 – JUNE 2

Welcome to Global Oslo Music’s annual festival – Global Nights! We have chosen Sentralen in the center of Oslo for this year’s festival – which is in its seventh year.

Through the course of Global Nights, our audience is invited to experience outstanding creative and performing artists through a series of concerts, club nights, seminars, masterclasses, and performances of commissioned works.

OMBELINE CHARDES & GATHA
Saturday night we invite you to a concert by Ombeline and Gatha. Ombeline (from Paris but living in Oslo), and Gatha (from Bordeaux but living in Paris) will be performing together for the first time – two French musicians who both play string instruments, compose their own music and that have differing artistic expressiveness. They have been commissioned by us “To create new music together through their instinctiveness!”. They will be performing their own solo works first; and will then present their musical collaboration – acoustically and electronically.

OMBELINE CHARDES
Ombeline Chardes is a violinist and composer from France, who is well-established within the top sphere of performers
in the global music scene in Norway. Prior to coming to Norway she studied composition, classical music arranging, jazz and violin at the Paris Conservatoire. Ombeline experiments with various music genres, and has the unique capability to capture her audience through her distinctive musical world of gorgeous melodies, and intricate beautiful harmonies. Amongst her compositions, she has written music for films and ensembles; and was commissioned to write a work for Global Oslo Music in 2018.

GATHA
Ever since starting her studies at the Conservatoire Gatha has created danceable electropop – a mix of sensual rhythms
and tones which form a frame of melancholic reverberation around her expressive cello playing. As a young performer
her music tastes took varying directions; inspired by (amongst others) Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child, and Est. She starred in The Atlas Mountain’s first album, was the warming up act for Julien Doré, Asaf Avidan and Yodelice, as well as having composed music for the advertisements of Yves Saint Laurent, Vogue and Chanel. She is currently working on her debut album, where she addresses current societal issues; in particular the situation of women today. We will have the great privilege of receiving a sneak preview of this music prior to its release.

On stage: Ombeline (violin, voice), Gatha (cello, voice), Billy (electronics, loops).

DJ LaMIssy
The concert with Ombeline and Gatha will be followed by a club with DJ LaMissy – one of the most popular in the Kizomba dance scene in Oslo. The last three years have seen her perform at festivals, events and concerts where she has heated up the dance floor with zouk-based rhythms such as Kizomba, Zouk, Ghetto Zouk, Cabolove, and many more. She has a predilection for African-based music and rhythm, and will take you along a musical journey on the African continent and its surroundings throughout the course of the evening.
