UN-Theme Week 2018: Welcome to the Opening Ceremony

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

FN-studentene Oslo avvikler festivalen UN Theme Week 2018: Still Human i Oslo 19.-24.mars.

(E) The UN Student Association Oslo invite you to our welcoming ceremony. We have the honor of arranging the opening of the UN Theme Week at our Nobel Peace Center. They present the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize and their work, as well as the story of founder Alfred Nobel. The center additionally functions as an arena for public debate. Through changing exhibits, guided tours, events, educational and family activities, they hope to stimulate reflection on and engagement with themes such as war, peace and conflict resolution. The Nobel Peace Center has been internationally recognized for its commitment to documentary photography and interactive technology.

Hamsika Premkumar, President of the UN Student Association Oslo, will hold an opening speech and wish you welcome. Then, for the first time ever, the “UN Student Prize” will be awarded to a non-mainstream organization or activist that works with vital UN-related problems, directed by the Jury Committee. Towards the end, State Secretary Jens Frølich Holte, and Member of Parliament for the Standing Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs Jette Christensen, will hold a speech.

The event will end with a beautiful musical performance by Nomzi Kumalo, organized in collaboration with Global Oslo Music, who will be joined on stage by pianist Eirik Jonassen Fjelde. Nomzi came to the professional music scene in 2015 with an extraordinary poetic sensibility, in search of her own truth. She expresses the dialogue between two different cultures from opposite ends of the world: South Africa and Norway; what that looks like and how it reveals new perspectives and experiences in the global arena. Accompanied by music written between Barcelona and Oslo, and inspired by jazz and folk music, Nomzi sings about romance tragedy, resilience and love.

The event is free and open to all, but due to limited space we ask that you make use of the registration form here.

The ceremony will be held in English.

Moderator: Professor and Research Director at the Center for Development and the Environment, UiO Dan Banik

The concert is supported financially by Arts Council Norway and the City of Oslo.

Feature artist 13.03: Live Sollid Schulerud (vocal & electronics)
